Overview

The Mentoring Committee facilitates professional growth and development by encouraging Chapter members to become mentors, organizing guided mentorship programs, providing educational resources for students and early career professionals, and recognizing outstanding mentors and early career professionals.

Mission

The mission of the Mentoring committee is to promote the development of successful fisheries professionals through mentoring.

Goals

The committee will seek to accomplish the committee mission through the following goals:

  1. Encouraging chapter members to be mentors
  2. Matching those pursuing a career in the fisheries professions with a mentor
  3. Providing resources for students and early career professionals
  4. Recognize outstanding mentors and early career professionals

Annual Events and Resources

  • Undergraduate Mentoring Program – get paired up with a fisheries professional for personalized help with resume review, mock interview, career planning, job shadowing, and more!
  • Free resume review is offered year-round. For more information, see the Resume Evaluation Page here.
  • In-person mock interviews at the ICAFS Annual Meeting.
  • The Mentoring Committee organizes a Student-Professional Mixer and Professional Panel Discussion to facilitate networking for students and professionals at the ICAFS Annual Meeting.
  • Administration of Outstanding Mentor Award and Outstanding Early Career Professional Award.
  • A Job Application and Interview Guide was distributed during the 2018 ICAFS Annual Meeting and is available here.
