Position Summary

Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) is seeking a Senior Fisheries Biologist to join our team in Boise, Idaho. This role will lead and manage scientific studies on salmonid ecology, fish habitat, and habitat restoration in Idaho and the Pacific Northwest.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage research projects focused on salmonid ecology, aquatic habitat, and watershed assessments in Idaho and the Pacific Northwest
  • Coordinate field data collection and train and supervise field crews for multiple projects.
  • Manage and analyze field and remote sensing data using GIS, R and other statistical packages
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary positions to develop project reports including technical, writing, graphics, data summaries, and interpretations
  • Manage projects including monitoring the scope of work, budget, and timelines as well as maintaining client relationships, attend client meetings, and distribute periodic project updates
  • Lead the development of project proposals, plans, objectives, tasks, and budgets for small to medium projects, supporting proposal development on larger projects
  • Attend and present at scientific meetings and assist in or lead the writing of scientific manuscripts for publication
  • Supervise and mentor Biologists and Technicians as needed by sharing expertise and guidance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:
    • B.S. in fisheries, biology, or a related field + 7 years of successful and sustained performance focused on salmonids and PNW aquatic organisms or
    • M.S. in a related discipline + 5 years of experience, or
    • Ph.D. in a related discipline + 3 years of experience
  • Fisheries Science & Ecology Expertise: Strong understanding of salmonid life history, habitat assessment methodologies, and aquatic ecosystem dynamics
  • Data Analysis & Modeling: Proficiency in R, GIS, and other statistical tools for managing and interpreting ecological datasets
  • Project Management Skills: Proven ability to design, lead, and complete research projects, manage field teams, and coordinate deliverables within budget and time constraints
  • Technical Writing & Publications: Strong track record of authoring technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and research proposals
  • Fieldwork Experience: Hands-on experience with aquatic habitat surveys, fish sampling techniques, and environmental monitoring
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Ability to supervise, mentor, and develop junior scientists and field staff
  • River Restoration Experience: At least two years of involvement in river restoration projects, including fish passage, habitat enhancement, and/or restoration monitoring
  • Valid Driver’s License
